I have worked closely with John for over 20 years. His breadth and depth of knowledge in the field of contemporary art, painting, sculpture and new media is unparalleled. His foresight in the discovery of emerging artists alongside his knowledge of established works brings a level of expertise that always challenges, yet is sound in its approach. Further, John has always been respectful of objectives and budget in guiding and assisting with the development of a collection.

Services
Consulting
As an art consultant, John Buckley can provide a comprehensive service to the client, extending beyond the simple selection of artwork. Framing, mounting, positioning, lighting and conservation of artworks are taken into account. In addition to the physical aspects of the collection, artworks should be researched, catalogued and labelled.
John Buckley will supervise all these activities, negotiating the best possible prices with suppliers. John is able to provide briefing on the works to staff and clients, providing context, information on the significance of works and the rationale for their inclusion. John works directly with architects and designers involved in each project to create a coordinated expression of a corporate image and culture.
As a registered valuer for the Commonwealth Taxation Incentives for the Arts Scheme, Buckley is able to value existing collections for insurance. Similarly, he can also provide advice on the sale of works from existing collections.
Art as investment
Artwork within a business or home contributes exponentially to the atmosphere, character and well-being of the residents in a space. Art should be bought primarily for enjoyment. If art is to be viewed as an investment, must be seen in the aethestic pleasure provided by the ownership of works of art
For the collector, the emphasis should be on building a good collection of quality works. Good art has an inherent value dictated by the significance of the artist and the quality of the work within the artists practice. Good works are a combination of subject matter, national reputation and representation by commercial and state galleries.
